AVAREN is proud to provide IT
consulting and computer services to the businesses of Grand Prairie
Texas. The city of Grand
Prairie is a city in Tarrant, Ellis, and Dallas Counties in Texas U.S.
The population was 154K in 2006. First known as "Dechman", twas founded
by A. M. Dechman in 1863. Dechman, originally from Birdville, discovered
that land in Dallas county was being offered for trade. In 1863, Dechman
purchased approximately 340 acres of land on the Trinity River. Dechman
worked to build a homestead on the property, but eventually returned to
his family in Birdville before enlisting in the Confederate army. Later,
in 1867, he filed paperwork for a town plat of roughly 50 acres.
Dechman sold half his property to the Texas and Pacific Railroad to
entice them to put the railroad through his holdings. After the railroad
named their depot after "Dechman", he moved to Dechman from Bryan texas.
The original Post Office started in 1877 with the name “Deckman” because
of a mix-up with the paperwork. Also in 1877, the town's name was
changed to Grand Prairie. In 1890, Dechman sold the rest his land and
moved to the Waxahachie area. In 1909 Grand Prairie was finally
incorporated as a city.
